Canticum Novum, the Stellenbosch based a Capella Christian choir, is the first ever choir to do a full concert program for the Classical Sounds concert series. Classical Sounds was established in 2015 as a means of fundraising with the goal to encourage local musical talent, create a performance platform for musicians and promote classical music. Since their commencement, the series has presented more than 9 free live concerts and have donated more than R50 000 to these causes. Canticum Novum, the church choir of the Moederkerk in Stellenbosch, is a concert choir with a passion for outreach. Therefore the name and motto: Cantate Domino Canticum Novum – Sing to the Lord a new song. This is one of the oldest church choirs in South Africa – celebrating their 60th anniversary in 2019 with a big choir and orchestra concert, hosted in the Endler Hall, Stellenbosch. Repertoire include works spanning many centuries and genres: from Renaissance motets, Irish hymns as well as meditative sung Taizé songs and traditional African hymns. The concert takes place at the Helderberg Dutch Reformed Church on Sunday, 5 May, and starts at 15:00. Entrance is free and donations would be welcomed. Refreshments will be on sale in the tent before and after the concert. No booking required. For further information and other concert dates, contact the Music director: Yolanda Botha on helderbergconcerts@gmail.com or visit our Facebook page: Classical Sounds.

Donations from this concert will go toward Canticum Novum’s outreach efforts and will help fund their tour to the South Cape.
